Desi return, has been a very informative, valuable and encouraging Channel. The personal stories, are realistic, positive and very valuable source for personal planning and decisions. They keep on top of all changes that affect NRIs or R2I people, whether it was the new taxes on international remittances, or SSN/Investment withdrawals for people living outtside the country or others, they keep us briefed! Good experience - finally a whatsapp group where people are actually engaged & you get help. Highly recommended - returning is overwhelming but you not alone - if india has anything, it has lots of nris 😜

I think improvement can be made if fewer people are in a group (eg. Have more fin groups). I rather not have to 'check 400msgs in a wk' but some people are very helpful.

Questions people ask

Triggers cluster into a few patterns: family pull, visa fatigue, children hitting a school age, burnout, parents' health, financial independence, or desire to build in India. Match your household to the pattern that fits—one person's story is not your forecast.
Reasonable depends on city, rent, income continuity, kids, parents, health insurance, and how long the corpus must last. As a working couple, the key is not corpus alone; it is runway if one income fails after return. Build budget bands for target city, 12-18 month emergency fund, and one-time setup costs before deciding.
A five-year plan should keep optionality: keep source-country accounts, build India emergency fund, plan currency exposure, avoid irreversible property decisions too early, and use the RNOR window deliberately when you finally return.
A year-specific decision should be answered with a calendar. Work backward from 2027 through tax year, school year, employment bonus/vesting, lease, shipping, bank conversion, OCI/passport, health insurance, and parent-care events. If the calendar exposes too many collisions, move date should shift, not the checklist.
