Desi return, has been a very informative, valuable and encouraging Channel. The personal stories, are realistic, positive and very valuable source for personal planning and decisions. They keep on top of all changes that affect NRIs or R2I people, whether it was the new taxes on international remittances, or SSN/Investment withdrawals for people living outtside the country or others, they keep us briefed! Good experience - finally a whatsapp group where people are actually engaged & you get help. Highly recommended - returning is overwhelming but you not alone - if india has anything, it has lots of nris 😜

I think improvement can be made if fewer people are in a group (eg. Have more fin groups). I rather not have to 'check 400msgs in a wk' but some people are very helpful.

Questions people ask

OCI handling depends on current visa, place of application, document set, and jurisdiction. If the child is already in India on e-visa or other status, check OCI portal/e-FRRO rules before stay duration becomes the urgent issue. Carry passport, existing visa, birth certificate, parents' documents, and translations/apostilles where needed.
Do not assume entry status and exit status can be swapped without consequences. If OCI is under process and stay may exceed visa limits, check e-FRRO/FRRO extension rules before travelling. Resolve status before the deadline and keep acknowledgement, passport, visa, and OCI proof together.
India visa extensions are handled through the official e-FRRO route where applicable. Start before expiry with passport, current visa, address proof, reason for extension, and OCI status if relevant. Processing times vary—do not wait until the last day.
Official OCI guidance requires online upload/update when a new passport is issued; some reissue rules vary by age and category. For planning, treat passport renewal and OCI update as one workflow, keep old passport if available, and print acknowledgement before travel. Do not wait until airport day to discover the mismatch.
OCI timing varies by mission, country, document completeness, and backlog—weeks to months is normal. Start early, use the correct jurisdiction checklist, track status online, and keep travel plans independent until OCI is issued or a valid visa alternative is confirmed.
Carry originals plus scans: child passport, OCI card, birth certificate, parents' passports, marriage certificate, apostilles/translations where applicable, vaccination and medical records. For foreign-born children, missing apostilles or translations cause the most painful rework after return—verify the checklist for your mission before you fly.
